My Job When Robots Take Over

I have been thinking about what I could do with myself if AI and robotics truly take over so many jobs, that I am utterly unemployable. It’s hard to say what privileges I can enjoy, as that depends on some sort of universal basic income. Assuming that I get enough to live my current lifestyle, there are so many things I could do with my time.

Better sleep. My sleep schedule could change so much if I didn’t have to be at work at 8 in the morning. I could take naps in the afternoon. I could wake up in the middle of the night and enjoy my late nights like a true night owl. That alone would contribute greatly to my health. I would love to see Siestas, the afternoon societal resting period, introduced in the Americas. Mid-day siestas seem like a great idea to me.

Better exercise. I might not actually do this, but I’d like to think that if I had more time on my hands, that I’d be much more athletically active. It would add even more to my health and well-being. Along with this, I could go back to cooking more and improving my health and weight from a nutrition point of view. That would be nice.

For video games, I would probably spend more time in long video game sessions. That’s probably where most of my time would go. Video game advancement can be so rewarding when you can put several focused hours into reaching goals. I’d probably reach goals instead of exercise. Video games would be so fun.

Reading is something I am far, far behind with. I am behind by about 13 books, not to mention all the classics that I should be reading. I have so many books to read just to catch up. It would be nice to catch up on my reading. I just hope I don’t break my glasses after making the plans and settling down for a good read…. It wouldn’t be fair.

I have a number of TV shows on DVD that I haven’t watched yet. It would be nice to catch up on that list. I would also like to catch up on more modern movies that I haven’t seen. I wonder what the movie landscape would look like after robots take over. That could be a very interesting scene. It would probably be a lot like the movie scene now. In fact, it might be one of the very few industries where some human beings might still be employed.

I’m sure there is plenty I could think of. There would probably be regular lessons on learning how to spend your new free time. Maybe the Library would become a popular hangout. There are already significant events happening at libraries, so that would become a lively social center.

Also, I could spend my time doing whatever lawnwork and home repair that the robots don’t handle. I’m hoping that the robots would handle all the serious chores.
